Mission Waco Day 2!

Day 2

Today we were up bright and early and excited for our first full day! After breakfast and a quick orientation, we were off to our morning service projects. We split into 8 different and were on our way.
Here are a handful of projects we did throughout the day:
-Passing out flyers about upcoming Mission Waco events
-3 groups went to nursing homes to play games and visit with some of the residents
-Cleaning of Mission Waco run facilities
-Painting and mowing
-Sorting through donated clothing
-Scrubbing and cleaning the homeless shelter beds and bathrooms
(these are just to name a few)

We then met up for lunch and then were off to our afternoon projects!

Around 4:30 we all met up at My Brother's Keeper, Mission Waco's homeless shelter, and were given and tour and brief history about how it started and the stories of some of the shelter's residents. Then it was time for dinner.

After dinner the boys went to go swim and the girls went to My Brother's Keeper to do a devotional with some of the residents. Some of the girls were a little nervous, but I think that went away really fast when they met the people that called the shelter home. I lead the devotional and basically had some of the girls share some of their favorite verse. It was cool because one of the residents even stood up and told us all about his favorite verse too! Then the girls got in groups and went to meet some of the residents. They took a few minutes to get to talk and get to know them. They asked them all sorts of questions from, "What is your favorite color?" to, "What do you want to do when you get back on your feet?" The girls did an amazing job being open and getting to know each of the residents and some of them even share facts about the person they met with the rest of us. Right before we left a resident, Dylon, asked if he could play a few songs for us on his guitar. We circled around him and sang 3 worship songs with him. It was a powerful moment to see our 4th and 5th graders mingled in with the homeless in Waco singing to OUR God! (I have posted some pictures of Dylon singing with us). There will be more about the story of why Dylon was there later. After we sang we actually had a shelter resident ask if he could pray for US. Nothing is more humbling then standing in a circle with 58 girls and women leaders getting prayed over by a man with literally nothing. He prayed for our hearts and the hearts of these girls while they grow up. He prayed for our safety and strength to continuing to follow our God no mater what life brings. Truly amazing experience. Check out some pictures from today!
